Sheffield hits 500th HR: is he HoFer?

It didn't take 15 minutes for Tim Kurkjian to pontificate that he thinks Sheffield is a hall of famer upon reaching 500hrs.

I don't think he is. His numbers are rather similar to Fred McGriff though slightly better in Hrs, Avg, Slugging. But he's never won a HR title, has one batting title, only a couple of seasons where he was sniffing an MVP. AND, of his best seasons were in 2003 and 2004 when he was actively and admittedly using steriods.

He's now playing for his 8th team in the NYMets. I wonder how many hall of famers earned their way out of town 7 different times. (Of course as I say this, Rickey Henderson played for 8 different teams but in 13 different "stints" along the way).

I think he belongs in the hall of good, but not the hall of fame. Or perhaps an eventual hall of steriods users since I don't think the likes of McGuire, Palmeiro, Clemens, Bonds, A-Rod, Sosa, Luis Gonzalez, Pettitte, etc are ever getting into the HoF.

Coincidentally, did you guys know that Carlos Delgado now has 472 career Hrs and he's only 37? Another guy who will eventually have mid-500 HRs who i don't think is a HoFer.
